DESIGN SOLUTION
The primary responsibility was to conduct a Physical Needs Assessment for the Redden State Forest and
do a Master Plan for expanded future amenities. Once part of a hunting preserve for the executives
of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Redden State Forest is a 5,000 acre passive recreation area under
the control of the Department of Agriculture. The Lodge, Horse Barn, and Manager's House, which
are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, were in varying states of disrepair.
Built in 1903, the lodge is a popular feature of Redden State Forest for day and overnight rental.
Key elements of the lodge renovation feature restoration of the exterior and interior finishes, an updated kitchen capable of serving large groups, accessible bathrooms, and entrances. In the great room, new lighting was provided for general illumination and sconces of the period of the original construction were located and installed on the original brackets.
