Of primary importance was the creation of a simple, well-defined plan which would separate public access and private functions. Deliveries and storage of stock needed to be readily accommodated in a separate circulation pattern from customer parking and primary circulation. The plans focused on the celebration of the plants, accessories, and gifts with translucent skylights in high ceiling spaces. The open plan store is zoned to provide a varied character which depends on the type of item sold. Tools and chemicals are kept readily at hand in an area which has special exhaust. Interior plants and bonsai plants are kept in a sunroom with balanced light and ventilation. Specialty and seasonal items are readily in view upon entry to the store.

Wide verandas linked to the main store provide weather protection for exterior sales and displays.
